And the twistedfak of the year award goes to…………………
Tania Head or whatever her name might be. Have you heard this story about the woman – the former president of the board of the World Trade Center Survivors’ Network no less - who ‘allegedly’ fabricated her story as a survivor of the attacks on the World Trade Center? By story, we mean completely fictional. In a nutshell – and we seem to be dealing with a real hardcore nut here – Tania had been telling people she had been badly burned when she was on the 78th floor the day of the attacks and saved by a volunteer but her, also fictional, fiancé Dave wasn’t quite as lucky and perished. Or was he her husband?
She’d vary that detail as well in her tales of woe while traveling the country sharing her tragic tale in her role with the Survivors’ Network. Dave’s family, of course, never heard of her. The NY Times article takes you through the list of alleged lies from Ivy League degrees to relationships to jobs she claims to have had BUT no one has any record of this bizarre individual. Interesting. I can see a lost university file or a lost employment file or a romance a man would keep secret from his family but it’s a bit too coincidental none of her lies can be verified. Not one. Wow, that’s one sickfak. Allegedly.
Ok, everyone tells a white lie here and there. Kids tell their parents they got an A on a quiz when really they got a C. To impress women, a man might claim to drive a Porche when he really drives a Toyota. Women say they’re a natural blond when natural requires a visit from Miss Clairol. Hollywood stars claim they haven't had plastic surgery but oddly their chests go from flat as a board to voluptuous C cups overnight or they continue to look 20 years old at nearly 50 just from working out and a clean diet. Yeah ok.
But, lying to this degree is just plain sick. I once knew a guy who'd lie about losing friends in the WTC attacks in his pathetic attempts to score with women but that's nothing compared to this.
Lying about surviving a tragic event that claimed so many lives and turned so many other lives upside down forever – not to mention the political results of that day – is about the lowest, sickest thing one can do. It wasn't enough to simply lie to friends and family about having a boyfriend or a promotion at work; she had to create an entire life and tragic experience it doesn't seem she really had and take on a role with an organization established to help real survivors deal with a very tragic experience. Saying this woman needs help is putting it mildly.
The score would be 10/10 but the obvious mental disorder warrants 1 point of leeway.
