Let's Rid the Schools of Bibles

Pericles's picture

It seems that Catholics are really scared of us, the atheists, and they'll do anything to impose their own views on everyone and anyone. In the old days they used to burn and torture people. These days they'll use any 'dirty' trick and legal loop-holes. So, the Ontario's Halton Catholic District School Board ordered the best-selling book entitled "The Golden Compass" to be removed from the school's library, according to CTV's site. Yet again the Catholics' bigotry becomes obvious.

But, but wait a second. Did you just read "Catholic School Board"? Yes, you did. The school is a Catholic faith-based one. So, one can say that it makes perfect sense to ban any non-Catholic books from their library especially "atheistic" books. Well, there is a small problem here. Most Catholic faith based schools in Ontario are not private. They are mostly funded by taxpayers. Not only that, but they are the ONLY faith-based schools in the province which receive public money. All other similar schools are private.

I think that Ontarians have lost the meaning of democracy and separation of church and state. Perhaps it is time for non-faith based schools as well. I am sure that there are a lot of non-believers in the province. They should get together and fight for their right to have their own schools as well - schools where science takes high priority and religion is taught as part of history / mythology / social sciences. After all the so-called "Holy Book" aka the Bible is one of the most violent books ever compiled. Tell me how many other books with such content are taught as the absolute truth and the word of a god (which most probably does not exist)?

Books, games, videos with explicit violent content get an 18+ rating. It is an offence to sell / give such products to under-aged people, let alone to primary school kids. Why then, are they taught about the Bible? Most probably it's because teachers get the "right" exempt. They "fail" to use a big part of the book. How nice! The Bible is one of the most twisted books of fiction / fantasy. It has no true morals. I am not going to spend time analysing the Bible since not only I am not an expert but there are excellent sites and books out there dedicated to that issue.

The thing is that we know better. We know how faked-up that book is. Therefore I propose to all sensitive and bright parents to take action. Let's remove the un-Holy book from all schools. Let's stop fictionally "educating" our kids with violence, bigotry, misogyny, polygamy, hell inferno etc. and instead educate them with science and evolutionary ethics.

We do have the obligation to educate our kids properly. Have a good Sunday and do not forget not to praise the Lord today.
