Let's Bend Over in the Name of Religious Establishments
This is unheard of. Apparently the UN has approved a proposal by Muslim nations urging passage of laws around the world to protect religion from criticism, according to this article. The resolution urges states to provide "protection against acts of hatred, discrimination, intimidation and coercion resulting from defamation of religions and incitement to religious hatred in general," with a specific citation to the infamous cartoons that depicted the Prophet Muhammad in a Danish newspaper in 2005 which can be found here and here. By the way, the resolution was put forward by Pakistan on behalf of Islamic countries. Why not? Pakistan is such a democratic and human rights friendly country after all!
So, let us remember what some followers of that religion did as a result of those cartoons. There were widespread riots, violence and death threats. Check this article on BBC to refresh your memory. How peaceful, indeed! They thought that the cartoons were an insult to their prophet. I am sure they felt insulted, but guess what: I am also feeling insulted by all religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hindu, Buddhism etc. Have you seen me outside burning stuff and causing riots?
So, now, the UN passes a resolution which says that "Islam is frequently and wrongly associated with human rights violations and terrorism." Perhaps, if they stop killing and butchering in the name of their religion, then, perhaps the rest of the world would stop accusing them of such.
It seems, that what the Christians were doing to everyone for hundreds of years, including their own followers, has caught on with the other major monotheistic religions.
But perhaps the UN is right. It is not religion which is violent, per se. It is the arseholes who use religion to manipulate the masses to gain control. We all know that the religion establishment is just another form of a power-mongering entity. No wonder, in backwards countries they are in bed with the arseholes who are in power, such as Saudi Arabia. So, perhaps, the UN should adopt a resolution within it accuses the priesthood rather than religion. If it was not for Pope Isadick to claim that condoms do not help in fighting AIDS, then nobody would say anything about his religion.
Luckily, the resolution is not binding which means that those who propose it can go and fak themselves because guess what: As long as religious establishments use faith to manipulate and control the masses, there are going to be people like the Danish cartoonist who will protest in every way they want. Denmark is one of the best countries in the world. Their nation is the happiest on the planet. They have great education and health care and NO organised religion. A-faking-men.
Equally, our WTF editors and all those irreligious people on this planet had enough with the atrocities committed in the name of a God, whichever God that may be. As long as religious fanatics insult and kill others, we will continue to upset them and enjoy doing so. Perhaps it is time for the UN to pass a new binding resolution to ban religious establishments altogether from the face of this earth. If you want to be part of the 'civilised' world then stop blowing yourself up in the middle of Jerusalem, killing innocent Palestinian children in the Gaza Strip or committing genocide in Darfur. Leaders of Christianity, Islam and Judaism have already caused tremendous damage in this world because they seek more power.
And, now, these killers want me to accept it and shut up because it is not politically correct to speak? You may have not heard of democracy and freedom of speech, but we have. That is why, we will continue to ignore the non-binding UN resolution because just like the United States, we do not give a flying faaaaaaaak.
